Prof Yusuf Yıldırım, MD was born in Artvin in 1974. He graduated from Ege University School of Medicine in 1997. Then specialized in General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology and (General) Surgical Oncology, respectively. He became Associate Professor in 2007, Clinical Chief in 2008 and Professor in 2013. In May 2014, he went to Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OHIO, United States) as visitor and Robotic Surgery trainee. In June 2015, he got a fellowship from the "American College of Surgeons" (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons: FACS).
He has more than 150 scientific articles, most of which published in international Science Citation Index (SCI) journals, and his works have been cited more than 1900 times (h-index: 27, source: Scholar.Google.com, 10/10/2024). In his fields of expertise, he had participated in many national and international scientific congresses and courses, and has served as meeting organizer, invited speaker and chairman. He has written 3 books, one of which was published internationally and authored or translated about 25 book chapters. Professor Yıldırım is a referee for scientific articles in many prestigious international medical journals such as Cancer®, European Journal of Surgical Oncology® and International Journal of Gynecological Cancer®. Furthermore, he has taken part in many Associate Professorship and Professorship juries and has mentored more than 10 Master Theses. Meanwhile progressed to receive Continuing Medical Education (CME) certificates from various institutions such as the "European Accreditation Council", TUBITAK publication incentive awards, congress presentation awards and certificates of appreciation from various institutions. He is a member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO), the Turkish Surgical Society, the Turkish Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the Turkish Medical Association.
Professor Yıldırım is the only surgeon in Turkiye with the "General Surgical Oncology" and "Gynecologic Oncology" specialties together, and then focuses on being solutions for cancer patients especially with gynecologic, gastrointestinal (gastric and colorectal) and peritoneal cancers. He is also one of the first and widespread of HIPEC (Heated/Hypertermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) practitioners in our country, which is a regional cancer treatment. In addition to cancer surgeries, he deals with the diagnosis and treatment of various "pre-cancerous" conditions and "benign" tumors and cysts.
